Lieutenant Dianna Heckman

Dianna was born and raised on Mt Desert Island and a graduate of Mount Desert Island High School, Class of 1989.
Dianna is married and has a daughter currently enrolled at MDI, and one Step-Daughter who is currently serving in The United States Navy.
Dianna met and married her husband Steve, while they both worked at The Jackson Laboratory, and she has since moved on, and is currently working at Tempshield here in Trenton.
Dianna says she joined Trenton Volunteer Fire Department because of her husband. He had been on the fire deptment for about four years and was discussing with her how few members there were at that time. One thing she asked him was, if she joined would she have to fight fires? He said no, that if she joined she could join as a support person which was greatly needed. After explaining to her some of the tasks a support person does, she then took a little time to think it over and decided that she would like to help her community out.
Dianna goes on to say she enjoys being a part of the fire department, assisting and watching out for her fellow firefighters as they work hard to help others, and that is the greatest service she do as a volunteer firefighter.
"I learned that the members in the fire service are a family too, and being part of that family is very rewarding. " She says she watches out for her fellow firefighters, and though It may seem to the public as though she's simply holding a traffic sign while at a vehicle accident on Rt. 3, "to me, I'm alerting traffic to drive with caution while passing the scene of a collision" You can also find her working with our accountability system which tracks firefighters on a scene and helps us know where everyone is during an incident.
"Though I've always said, with a smile on my face, to anyone who asked why I joined the fire department? I'm spending quality time with my husband."
